This was the first time I have seen Judith Launand’s work in the flesh so to speak - and i have to say I was thoroughly intrigued by the dialogue between the rigid geometric forms that overlapped and played with the illusion of spatial boundaries.
The paintings exuded an odd sense of depth whilst maintaining a flat exterior - something readily suggested by the juxtaposition of flat blocks of colour and the linear shapes which bind the series of paintings with a mathematically precise structure.
